Stepping into the Octagon at UFC 173, T.J. Dillashaw was a massive 8-1 underdog in his championship bout against UFC Bantamweight Champion Renan Barao. At the time Barao was considered a complete fighter who could not be defeated inside the Octagon. Barao was riding on a 32 fight winning streak, having not tasted defeat in over 9 years.

For Dillashaw, Barao’s credentials were nothing words mere words. Dillashaw would put on a dominant performance and after four rounds he would pull off one of the biggest upsets in recent history, defeating Barao via TKO at 2:26 of the final round to become the new UFC Bantamweight Champion.

With an impressive victory over Barao many speculated on who Dillashaw’s first title defence will be against, with indications that person may be the last man to defeat Dillashaw inside the Octagon, Raphael Assuncao. However it has been revealed by Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight that Dillashaw’s next opponent will not be Assuncao, but instead Barao is likely to be receiving an immediate rematch. The rematch is likely to take place on the 30th of August at UFC 177 in Sacramento.
